Byron Fan

Byron has performed with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra since 2022. He received his Bachelor of Art in Music from Santa Clara University (SCU) where he studied under Motoko Toba. While at SCU, he was the Concertmaster of the University Orchestra and two-time winner of the Concerto and Aria Competition. He was also the recipient of the Arrigo and Caterina Descalzi Prize, which is awarded to a senior music student who best demonstrates technical and artistic growth. While pursuing a Master of Science in Biotechnology at Northwestern University, he was a first violinist in the Northwestern Philharmonia.

Byron began playing violin at age four and has been playing in an orchestra since second grade. During high school, he studied under Li Lin and was the Co-Concertmaster of the El Camino Youth Symphony (ECYS), now known as the Golden State Youth Orchestra. At ECYS, he toured Western and Central Europe and had numerous solo performances with the ensemble as a multi-time Concerto Competition winner. He was also the Co-Concertmaster of the 2013 California Orchestra Directors Association High School All-State Honor Orchestra. As a soloist, he received awards from the American String Teachers Association and Golden Strings of America International String Competition.

Besides music, Byron enjoys indoor bouldering, hiking, and spending time with friends and family. Byron currently works as a scientist at Eli Lilly and Company.
