Kevin Shiue
Kevin Shiue is a native of Carmel, IN, and devotes his time to his dual passions of music and medicine. Born in Phoenix, AZ, to Taiwanese immigrants, Kevin moved to Carmel when he was 5 years old and is a proud alumnus of Carmel Clay Schools. Kevin has been a member of the Carmel Symphony Orchestra since 2016, when he joined as a section violinist while a resident physician. Now an attending radiation oncologist and assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Indiana University, Kevin has continued to dedicate himself to the cultural fabric of his hometown.
Music has been a cornerstone of Kevin’s life since childhood, when he started piano lessons at age 9. He picked up violin late at age 14 and has studied under the guidance of Byron Plexico and Pamela Close. Kevin completed his undergraduate studies at Purdue University, where he graduated with a degree in Biochemistry and with a University Honors’ Diploma. He pursued medical school training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. He then returned to Indiana University where he completed a residency in Radiation Oncology. He played in various student orchestras throughout his educational career prior to joining the Carmel Symphony Orchestra.
Kevin resides in Carmel, IN, with his wife Li-Wen, an adjunct piano instructor at Butler University. Together, they share their home with two cats, Sashimi and Clementine, and enjoy traveling the world. Kevin also participates as an ad hoc member of the World Doctors Orchestra. He practices medicine primarily at IUH Methodist Hospital in downtown Indianapolis.
