Portrait of Bass musician Matthew Greven
Bass

Matthew Greven

Matt has been playing bass for roughly 47 years, and is in his 25th season with the Carmel Symphony. Over his career, he’s been fortunate to share with stage with many of the greats: Emanual Ax, Leonard Pennario, Menachem Pressler, Victor Borge, Louis Bellson, Pearl Bailey, William Warfield, Buddy Rich, Chet Atkins, Chris Botti, Neil Sedaka, Hillary Hahn, and many others! Most of these artists have autographed Matt’s (now retired) bass case!

Matt studied with the late Stuart Sankey at Indiana University/Jacobs School of Music.

Staying mostly in Central Indiana, Matt has strayed to play a couple opportunities touring North America and Europe with an operetta tour. Locally, he’s performed with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, orchestra’s in Muncie, Anderson, Richmond, Lafayette, and Bloomington.

When not playing classical repertoire, Matt very much enjoys playing with several local Big Bands as time allows. He has pretty much retired from DJ-ing, calling roughly 500 wedding receptions “enough,”  and way too many late-night shifts in Indy area clubs.

Non-gigging time is often spent visiting kids, travelling, boating, biking, etc. Matt is semi-retired from a long career in sales. His new focus is exposing anyone who’ll listen to him to the wonderful world of classical music!
