Lori Honer
A seasoned performer and educator with over 35 years of experience, cellist, Dr. Lori Honer began her professional career by performing at Carnegie Hall as the principal cellist of a national youth orchestra at the age of 17. Since then she has performed throughout Europe and the United States as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance from DePauw University, a Masters of Arts for Teachers degree from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts in cello performance and literature from the University of Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music where she was awarded a full scholarship.
Other honors include being named the Indiana Chapter of the American String Teachers Association’s “Studio Teacher of the Year 2022. In addition to being a member of the Carmel Symphony’s cello section, Dr. Honer serves on the faculty of the Music School at Butler University’s Jordan College of the Arts. She is also the founder and director of the Indianapolis Cello School. Dr. Honer lives in Indianapolis with her husband and their beautiful black cat, Oona. She plays a cello made by Sebastian Klotz in 1760.
