Liza Saracina
In addition to Liza Saracina’s position as the Second Oboe/English Horn in the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, she is the Principal Oboe in the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Principal Oboe in the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Second Oboe/English horn in the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, and Second Oboe in the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with the Uptown Chamber Orchestra and the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, and frequently plays with the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra and the Richmond Symphony Orchestra in Indiana.
She received her high school diploma with a concentration in oboe from the Interlochen Arts Academy, studying under Daniel Stolper, and her Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, under the tutelage of Linda Strommen. Ms. Saracina then continued her education by obtaining her Master of Music in Oboe Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with Principal Oboist of the Cleveland Orchestra, Frank Rosenwein, graduating as Summa Cum Laude of the graduating class. Finally, she finished her collegiate education at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, where she received an Artist Diploma in Woodwinds while studying under Dr. Mark Ostoich, Dwight Parry, and Christopher Philpotts.
When Liza isn’t playing the oboe, she loves to dote on her pets, including her Havanese, Bella, and her tortoise, Patches. She also enjoys making reeds with her wife, who is also an oboist, and celebrating her Italian heritage by making homemade gnocchi. For her day job, she is a fundraiser for Galápagos Conservancy. One of her favorite perks of her job is getting the opportunity to visit the Galápagos Islands almost on a yearly basis.
